What are Proton Pump Inhibitors?
Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid are part of a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). They are used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by reducing the amount of acid in a person's stomach. These medications may also be prescribed to treat heartburn, inflammation of the esophagus and stomach ulcers. All three PPIs are also now available over the counter.
Why are Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec Lawsuits Being Filed?
The manufacturers of these PPIs, AstraZeneca and Takeda, allegedly failed to warn physicians and patients of the increased risk of chronic kidney disease and kidney failure that is associated with taking this medication.
